Nandan Nilekani, who heads a panel on examination reform, has been listed in the "no-mapping" category of the Karnataka Special Intensive Revision (SIR), according to The Times of India. The same report names the co-founders of the stockbroking firm Zerodha among those flagged.
NDTV and Telegraph India also carried the story, reporting that Nilekani and the Zerodha co-founders are among voters in Karnataka whose names have been marked for verification. The reports describe the "no-mapping" category as one in which a voter's record could not be matched during the revision exercise.
The SIR is an exercise by the Election Commission of India to verify voter rolls in the state. Frontline Magazine has reported on the scale of the task, framing it as a question of whether the commission can verify roughly 43 lakh voters. The Indian Express reported that voters in Karnataka have been left anxious by SIR notices, describing requirements for mandatory presence and the absence of receipts.
